Student Prince 9 Plate - Syracuse China Restaurant China
Pea Soup Andersen's Restaurants in California.
The Jolly Roger restaurant. this was a chain of steak houses. I remember eating at one on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood when I was a kid. I remember very much liking the name and the pirate! It was a pretty adult atmosphere though. Not sure if there are any left out there. This plate had a backstamp reading 1961. I probably ate there in the early 1970s.
These are frequently referred to as Union Pacific plates. They are not backstamped by the Union Pacific railroad but simply as Syracuse China> Several years ago I had a conversation with a gentleman who collected these plates by the dozen. He claimed that they were also used in places like Children's Hospitals in New York State and were not exclusively used by Union Pacific. I don't care where they were used. They were some of the first pieces I ever saw that got me interested in collecting restaurant china
Nice simple clean lines on a western themed piece of restaurant china.
Lofy's plate backstamped for 1959 with detailed steer logo.
The Homestead which was a C&O Railroad owned restaurant. Not sure where it was loacted. Anyone know? This is one of the backstamps Syracuse started using after 1978 or 1979 or so. I don't think it affects the value too much though it is always more fun to see an older backstamp.
